Schweppes Stakes
The Schweppes Stakes is a Group Two Australian horserace which takes place on the esteemed Cox Plate Day every October. Held at Moonee Valley Racecourse, the Schweppes Stakes is one of the feature races of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival and is worth $200,000. The race takes place under weight for age conditions and is for horses aged three-years-old and above. The Schweppes Stakes is often regarded to be the premier weight for age sprint of the spring carnival, drawing some of Australia’s best runners.
Also taking place on Cox Plate Day is the headlining $3 million Group One Cox Plate (2040m), the Group Two Moonee Valley Cup (2500m), the Group Two Crystal Mile (1600m), the Group Two AAMI Vase (2040m), the Group Three Inglis Mile and the Group Three Red Anchor Stakes (1200m).

The Schweppes Stakes – History & Betting
The Schweppes Stakes first took to the racetrack in 1976 as a Principal race over 1000 metres and was won by Scamanda. Just four years later it elevated to Group Two status, and increased to 1200 metres as recently as 2007. Over the years the race has been known as the AJ Moir Stakes and the Schweppervescence Stakes, but is now known as the Schweppes Stakes.
